Recommended because it is a internet source which seeks to widen the policy debate in the United States regarding African issues. Among the many strengths of the site, visitors can access briefing papers/policy documents which are available via email. Readers can subscribe for (free) to the Africa Policy Electronic Distribution List. I recommend you start with About Africa Action. Provides general information about the organization.

Recommended because it serves as another source for obtaining current news from Africa. Among the many strengths of the site, is the availability of news stories in English and French. I recommend you start with African Education News. This link has the latest news in African education. In addition, when one is searching for current news stories this can be done by country or region.

Africa Point: East and Central Africa Newspaper and Media Sites

Recommended because it is a part of "Africa Point" website (http://www.africapoint.com/) and offers a list of online newspaper in East and Central African countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Seychelles. One of the strengths of this site is that each country provides at least one online newspaper available in English.

Recommended because it is a source that links to various online newspapers and media in Southern Africa. One of the strengths of the site is that it provides a list of links to newspapers and media in Southern Africa including South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius, Madagascar, and Zimbabwe.

Africa Point: Western Africa Newspaper and Media Sites

Recommended because it is an internet source offering online newspapers in Western Africa including Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'lvoire, Sierra Leone, and Senegal. One of the strengths of this site is that there are thirteen online newspapers which offer information about current events and issues from the point of view of West Africa. Quick to access, and some newspapers are available in French.

Recommended because this online resource provides multilingual chats, email communications and video newscasts. I recommend you start with Classrooms. This link provides information about ePals. ePals is a classroom exchange program that promotes cross cultural learning via email communication. The service is free but teachers must register their schools/classes. Beware that some video newscasts may be more than a few days old and some video images are not clear.

Recommended because this is the electronic version of the print guide - Africa World Press. The Africa World Press Guide is an annotated guide to educational resources from and about Africa. The resources are organized according to 28 topics. Examples of topics include reviews of literature focusing on African issues, conflict resolution, the environment, music, women's issues and and much more.

One of the strengths of this site is that it seeks to provide the English reader with objective, in-depth coverage of the Egyptian and Arab scenes as it relates to politics, the economy, culture and society. I recommend you start with the day’s top stories.

A monthly newspaper of Southern Africa's Muslims. One of the strengths of the site is that it seeks to examine issues relevant to Muslim communities, particularly in Southern Africa. Beware, the site is slow to load, the latest edition of the newspaper is almost two years old and the links to the news stories are not working.

Recommended as Southern Africa's leading weekly business and financial newspaper available online. Strength of site: news stories reflect the economic and political climate of South Africa and neighboring countries in the region. The online archive is available only for 2000 and 1999. I recommend you start with National Report. Visitors can read about the political or economic dilemmas faced by countries in the southern region. Beware that news stories may be more than a few days old.

Strength of the site: one of a few websites specifically focusing on African newspapers and magazines, a choice of several languages is available when viewing pages, a helpful legend is provided so that visitors will know if the link is a newspaper, internet site, tv or radio program. I recommend you start with the country or region that is under study. Most African countries are represented. Beware that some country specific newspaper links may not be working. Also some newspaper links may take some time to load.

Recommended because it is an online magazine dedicated to Africa's social issues. Strength(s) of the site -- articles presented in the magazine are from the perspectives of Africans and Africanists. Beware that news articles may be more than a few days old. I recommend you start the link titled Question and Answer Service. Teachers and students can ask specific questions about a specific country on the continent, and experts associated with the Legacy Magazine will respond to inquiries. An email address is required to receive a response.

African newspapers represented are the Ghanaian Newsrunner, The Monitor (Uganda), and a variety of South African newspapers.
