PAES Seminar in Teaching

What is it?
Please join us for this series of discussions. Participants will each receive a copy of McKeachie’s Teaching Tips, which will be the primary text for the seminar, as well as some additional resources.
The group will meet for four sessions to discuss selected chapters of the book, exchange reflections and practices, and to apply ideas from the book to their own courses.  We will focus on the following topics:
Session 1:  Starting with the Students (how students learn, who students are, motivation, classroom management, etc.)
Sessions 2 &  3:  Teaching Methods for Active Learning (contextual teaching and learning, discussion, lecture, problem-based learning, teaching with technology, etc.)
Session 4:  Assessing Student Learning (designing assignments, authentic assessment, grading, etc.)
There are several date and time options – we’ll decide when these sessions will be held based on when the majority of participants are available.  So, when you sign up, indicate all of the dates and times you would be available to meet.  Location will be announced when the dates are finalized. Refreshments will be served.
Our sessions will be held during one of these time slots:
a)            Thursdays, from 9-11   (Jan 31, Feb 14, Feb 28, and Mar 14)
b)            Thursdays, from 1-3    (Jan 31, Feb 14, Feb 28, and Mar 14)
or
c)            Fridays, from 9-11        (Feb 1, Feb 15, Mar 1, and Mar 15)
To sign-up, call or email Darcy Haag Granello (688-4605, granello.1@osu.edu).  When you sign up, indicate all of the time options you would be available.  Once everyone has signed up, we’ll go with the time slot for which the most people indicated availability.

Space is limited – please sign up by Wednesday, January 16, 2002
